This expedition allows you to explore the eastern coast of Stewart Island. Paddle where few others have had the opportunity, explore picturesque Port Adventure, drift down the Lords River. Then spend several days paddling, exploring and marvelling at the beauty and the remoteness of Port Pegasus.  This is Kayaking at its very best. We supply all the logistics to make this happen.

Note:  Some kayaking experience is required for this expedition. You will be asked to complete a questionnaire detailing your experience. However, you Kayak only when you want to. You can remain on board at any time you choose.

DAY 1.

We all meet in Oban (Stewart Island). You will be transferred to Strannik where you will be introduced to the crew and the vessel. There will be a chance to settle in and familiarise yourselves with the boat the equipment. After lunch together we will cruise to Port Adventure.

DAY 2.

Our first day of paddling and Port Adventure is a great place to start. There are a couple of sheltered bays Abrahams Bosom and Oyster Bay ideal to brush up on those skills. Then an opportunity to paddle up the Heron River that drains into Port Adventure.

DAY 3

We plan to spend the day in the Lords River.  Our activities depend a little bit on the tide. The river is navigable for some miles, up as far as a waterfall. We might be able to paddle upstream as far as the waterfall and then bring the Kayaks back downstream with the zodiacs or vice versa depending on the tide. For the really fit you might want to paddle both ways.

DAY 4 – 8

We plan to spend 5 days in Port Pegasus, enjoying the many sheltered bays and islets that make up this seldom visited region of NZ. There are no shortage of places to explore, some of them are tide dependent and we will be able to work around those.  There will also be an opportunity to enjoy some short walks including the Trig D, the Fraser Peaks, Bald Cone and Broad Bay.  We are there to assist you to have the best possible time. Paddle, walk and explore by day and enjoy the comfort and hospitality of Strannik in the evenings in any one of a number of safe and sheltered anchorages.

DAY 9.

Today we sail back to Paterson Inlet and depending on the time of our arrival there may be an opportunity to explore nearby Ulva Island, an outstanding Nature Reserve. We enjoy a farewell dinner tonight.

DAY 10.

Disembark at Oban, continue your Stewart Island adventures or return home.
