Note:  Some kayaking experience is required for this expedition. You will be asked to complete our questionnaire detailing your experience. However, you Kayak only when you want to. You can remain on board at any time you choose.

Day 1 Te Anau to Preservation Inlet.

All meet in Te Anau (time and place to be advised) and you will be transferred to the head of Long Sound by Helicopter. On arrival  you will be welcomed aboard, you will meet the crew be introduced to Strannik and there will be safety and operational briefings. This afternoon there will be an opportunity for a “shake down” paddle somewhere in Preservation Inlet.

Day 2 – 4 Preservation and Chalky Inlets.

Enjoy all the numerous opportunities for paddling (and hiking if you want a break) in  both Chalky and Preservation Inlets.  These Inlets (technically Fiords) are rarely visited by Kayakers so there is plenty of pioneering trips to do.

In Preservation Inlet there is some great paddling (and hiking) to be had. Paddle down Otago Retreat and walk to Puysegur Point, explore the old Gold Mining towns of Cromarty and Te Onera or the Tarawera Mine in Isthmus Sound.

If you are experienced and up for it providing the weather and sea conditions are OK you could paddle around Gulches Head an extreme stretch of open water between Preservation Inlet and Chalky Inlet.

In North Port (Chalky Inlet) you can explore the shallower waters around Blind Passage and the hulk of the old government steamer the SS Stella. In South Port (Chalky Inlet) a great opportunity to incorporate some hiking with a walk through to Seek Cove and in the upper reaches  of Edwardson  and Cunaris Sounds  there is some interesting paddling to be had.

You paddle as often and as far as you like. Re-joining Strannik at any time during the day.   Enjoy the comfort and hot meals on Strannik each night.

Days 5 -8 Dusky Sound.

This is a rare opportunity to paddle some of the most historic water ways in NZ. Follow the wake of Cooks ship the Resolution into Pickersgill Harbour, Cascade Cove, Indian Island, Anchor Island and Luncheon Cove. Take a break from paddling and enjoy a walk on Anchor Island.   Follow in the wake of Richard Henry, Conservationist and caretaker of Resolution Island in the 1890’s, around Pigeon Island, Facile Harbour and Resolution Island.  Paddle through sections of the Acheron Passage or Wet Jacket Arm.  The opportunities for exploring are endless .

Day 9 Breaksea Sound – Doubtful Sound.

This morning we enjoy a final paddle in the Dusky Sound complex with an opportunity to explore parts of Breaksea Sound before heading north up the coast to Doubtful Sound.

DAY 10 Doubtful Sound to Te Anau.
